Comment:
The program is similar to the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and calls for three separate theaters under one roof for the performance of opera, drama, music, and experimental productions. The site was located in an under-developed, non-descript neighborhood with the intention that the new theater would spur urban renewal. Diagrammatically, the hierarchy from front-of-house to back-of-house functions is very clear, as is the segregation of ticket-holders from the general public.
The proposal features large public indoor and outdoor plazas and the extensive use of glass simultaneously respects the existing neighborhood scale and will adapt well to future, unknown adjacent development.
