Comment:

The scape of work included the development and implementation of the program for a total Hotel-Casino development with retail and convention center facilities occupying one square city block on the famous Atlantic City boardwalk.

The complex interior program included 500 luxury guest rooms, a 40000 s.f. casino, a 1200 seat theater, health club, gourmet restaurant and bars, and extensive back-of-house support areas.

The design was two-fold in concept: It entailed the historical restoration of the landmark status Shelburne Hotel, which occupied part of the site since the early 1920's, as well as the construction of the new hotel complex.
The existing Victorian and Neoclassical architecture and interiors provided decorative input which become the key thematic elements.
Within the relatively neutral contemporary buildings, these elements provided the means to integrate and juxtapose the new with the old along the linear circulation spine that fronted the boardwalk.

This project was done in association with Alan Lapidus Associates, the base building architects.
