ince its inception in 1978, Nobutaka Ashihara Architect has been a responsive and capable firm of architects, planners, and designers offering a broad range of design, planning, and development consultation services to both domestic and international clients.
Based in New York, the firm has the ability to organize and execute both design and development projects. Commissions include institutional, commercial, and industrial buildings of various scales, interior design, renovation projects, single-family and multi-unit residential developments, as well as large-scale master planning proposals and feasibility studies.
The firm makes extensive use of computer capabilities for research, site selection, and project control whenever these services suit the needs of the client and scope of the project. A thorough understanding of client's goals and responsiveness to their client's requests within an acceptable financial, social, and environmental framework are primary concerns underlying all of the firm's work.
Underlying these concerns is the firm's commitment to the art and is apparent in its consistently high quality of design.
Nobutaka Ashihara
Who he is...
obutaka Ashihara received a Master of Architecture degree from Harvard University Graduate school of Design, preceded by a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Hosei University Technical College. He also attended Keio University, majoring in English Literature.
Since 1978, Mr. Ashihara has directed the staff of NAA, providing consulting services to clients in the areas of planning, development feasibility, architecture and interior design.
Prior to forming his own firm Mr. Ashihara served as Vice President/Director of Kajima International; in Los Angeles and New York. He also served as a designer on the staff of Kevin Roche/John Dinkeloo Associates, Hamden, Connecticut.
Mr. Ashihara has also taken an active part of design education by serving as a guest lecturer, panel critic, and faculty member at several schools here and abroad, including: Harvard University Graduate School of Design, New York Institute of Technology, University of Tokyo, Hosei University, Nova Scotia Technical College and The Japan Society, N.Y.C.
Mr. Ashihara is a current member of the American Institute of Architects and registered with the National Council Architectural Review Board to practice in many states including: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Minnesota and California.
